Balanced Iraq News Coverage?
     Wednesday, July 7, 2004

In this Big B File, I would like to talk about the media Coverage of the War in Iraq, also known as "Operation Iraqi Freedom".

We recently had a U.S. army Chaplain say mass at the Catholic Church I attend recently. Fr. Ed Ohm talked about the tour of duty he recently did in Iraq, specifically the region the U.S. Armed Forces describes as the "Suni Triangle". Among the things he mentioned was the media coverage of the war in Iraq.
He mentioned that of all of the TV and Networks and Cable News Channels, Only Fox News Channel was the ONLY NEWS OUTLET to show the War in Iraq (Operation Iraqi Freedom) in a fair and balanced way. I have noticed that on the evening newscasts, I rarely (if ever) see any positive news stories of life is like for the people in Iraq or even showing the positive things our Soldiers and some of our Fellow U.S. Citizens are doing in Iraq. Instead, they choose to do everything they can to make it look like it is a big disaster in Iraq and never giving the Soldiers and President Bush ANY credit for the positive things happening in Iraq.

The "Mainstream" media (ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, CNN, MSNBC) is willing to do anything they can to make it look bad for Bush and help the candidate of their choosing, John Kerry, win the White House this November. No wonder Fox News Channel is number one in the cable news ratings ALL DAY LONG. THEY EVEN beat out CBS's "The Early Show" as well ( a broadcast network program).
I recently saw a report on the 700 Club and a article in the local paper about soldiers feeling like the media is completely ignoring the positive things that are happening and are being done in Iraq and Afghanistan. I would like to have soldiers or anyone who has been in Iraq to send me their stories of the good that they did (themselves and/or their units) while they were in Iraq. I would even accept stories from people who are currently serving and/or working in Iraq as well.
